Quality Sausage: Quality Sausage processes beef and pork into a variety of cooked products. Its products are cooked, frozen and shipped to food distributors, chain restaurants and other institutional customers for use in frozen dinners, hors d’oeuvres and pizza toppings. Products include pepperoni, pork sausage, meatballs, beef patties and Salisbury steaks.
The relationship Quality has with its customers is driven by its ability to provide timely, consistent, customized products. Quality’s customer base consists of three segments: distributors, manufacturers, and national accounts.
Windsor Foods: In January 1996, HMI purchased the frozen food businesses of the Keebler Company and formed Windsor Foods. As a leading manufacturer of high-quality frozen foods, Windsor Foods competes in five major ethnic categories and serves foodservice, retail grocery and club, national account and industrial channels with branded and private label products. Windsor Foods provides its customers with unparalleled service, from superior pricing and flexible manufacturing to reliable logistics and high-quality products. Additionally, Windsor Foods employs nearly 2500 employees in 13 cities around the United States.
Windsor Foods has an “Appetite for Life” and strives to be best in class in innovation, customer service, “nimbleosity” and in caring for their employees. These four pillars have allowed Windsor Foods to achieve the number one brand in the three largest categories (Mexican, Asian and Italian) of ethnic frozen foods across every distribution channel.
The ethnic categories are:
- Mexican: Recognized brands such as JOSÉ OLÉ® brand products, Posada® and Butcher Boy® branded products are sold in this category. The Mexican category’s broad distribution includes leading retail, foodservice and national accounts. Products sold are premium and standard burritos, chimichangas, taquitos and a line of Mexican snacks including quesadillas and tacos. The JOSÉ OLÉ® brand products brand is the number one premium Mexican brand in the retail grocery market by a two to one margin. Posada® is the number one premium Mexican brand in the foodservice channel (restaurants, hospitals, schools and similar outlets). Three strategically located manufacturing facilities support these items.
- Asian: The 2011 acquisition of Discovery Foods made Windsor Foods the number one Asian frozen food company in the nation with the brands Golden Tiger®, Tai Pei® and Ling Ling® branded products. A comprehensive portfolio of frozen Asian entrees and appetizers such as egg rolls, potstickers and spring rolls are produced. These items are distributed to the retail, club, mass merchant, national restaurant chain, military, foodservice and industrial channels and are manufactured from three facilities.
- Italian: Within the Italian category, frozen filled pasta and entrees such as tortellini, lasagna, ravioli, stuffed shells, pasta sheets, manicotti and gnocchi are manufactured. Bernardi Frozen Italian Specialties® is the number one premium Italian brand by a four to one margin in the foodservice channel (restaurants, hospitals, schools and similar outlets), and supplies over 75% of the private-label grocer brands in the U.S. The Italian category is supported by two manufacturing plants.
- Appetizers: Fred’s For Starters® brand products are the long-standing and proven brand in this category. Product offerings including cheese sticks, coated vegetables, battered onion rings, extruded onion rings and stuffed jalapeno peppers are produced at two manufacturing sites. Windsor Foods introduced the first-ever frozen cheese stick – now a favorite and a staple in kitchens and restaurants nationwide. Windsor Foods has a long history of being first to market with creative new products.
- Meats and Chili: The Original Chili Bowl®, Cripple Creek® branded products and Whitey’s™ are the three main branded products in this category. These items are sold primarily to the foodservice channel as well as to the warehouse club and national chain account segments. A single manufacturing facility supports all of these offerings.
